Advanced Food Ingredients Centre
122 Buckle Avenue, Saskatoon, SK
The Food Centre is excited to share the construction progress of our new Advanced Food Ingredients Centre (AFIC2), located just south of our Agri-Food Innovation Centre (AFIC1) building at 122 Buckle Avenue. AFIC2 offers full-scale contract research and contract manufacturing services in fermentation, bioengineering, and downstream bioprocessing by Q1 2024. In addition to processing, manufacturing, and commercialization services, the Food Centre will be offering process simulation, modeling, engineering, CAPEX, OPEX, ROI, profitability, and techno economical analysis in the growing fermentation and bioengineering landscape in Canada.
AFIC2 is partially operational as we await a few more technologies to arrive for our Suite 2 – Downstream Processing Suite.
Our Fermentation Suite is 80% complete, equipped with downstream processing equipment:
- Stirred Tank Bioreactors (10L to 10,000L)
- Solid-State Bioreactors (1x10kg and 1 x 300 kg)
Our Process Development & Optimization (PDO) Lab and Analytical Lab are fully functional with our Fermentation and Bioengineering (FAB) team busy working on several projects.
Our Spray Dyer Suite is fully operational and has started taking on projects.
Advanced manufacturing and data-driven process analysis are currently offered through the program and gaining traction with clients. This initiative assists us as a vertical integration partner for extrusion, ingredients, fermentation and bioengineering, product development, etc., helping companies understand and make meaningful decisions based on the data processing methodologies.
As we near completion, please reach out to Dr. Pooba Ganeshan on your innovative ideas and we can customize a project plan for you.
