Saskatchewan Lean Improvements in Manufacturing (SLIM) program - call for applications

SLIM provides support to agri-businesses that process bio-product, food and feed from Saskatchewan crops and livestock. Projects must stimulate improvements in productivity and efficiency through the adoption of best practices, new technologies and state-of-the-art processes.

Applications for pre-approval of Lean Gap Analysis will be accepted until May 15, 2015. Applications for pre-approval of Infrastructure Projects will be accepted until May 15, 2015.

Federated Co-op supports buy local

Co-op has launched its new At Home campaign ( in Alberta and British Columbia, with upcoming introduction in Saskatchewan and Manitoba this Fall. This campaign will help consumers identify and buy local products through shelf labels. Products are scored out of 10 based on the location of product, location of ownership, and source of ingredients.

Food Centre receives funding for new agri-food innovation centre

The Food Centre held a news conference on Friday, February 20th at the Saskatoon Farmers' Market to announce over $13 million government funding towards a new agri-food innovation centre. This new centre will support the expansion of Saskatchewan's food ingredient and processing sector. It will house new analytical labs, mini pilot plant for product and process development, new commercial kitchen, multi-tenant incubation suites, and commercial incubator for pulse and cereal processing.

The new centre will be to expand and drive innovation in the agri-food industry; support entrepreneurship; support commercialization of new technology, research and development; and provide market access and proof of concept through incubation and pilot processing.

Funding for the new centre was received from Agriculture and Agr-food Canada and Saskatchewan Agriculture through Growing Forward 2 and from Western Economic Diversification.
